When Jesus commanded us to be perfect as our Father in heaven, we learned something important. We can reach perfection. In fact, how can we not be perfect when we were created by God, who is perfect? But what is perfection? How loving do you have to be? How smart, how spiritual? If you get fifty people in a room, you will have fifty versions of what is considered perfection. Since there is no universal definition of perfection, maybe perfection is just where you are at. We just have to recognize it. Everything in this world is an appearance. But behind all appearances is God, is perfection. As we strive to do things "better" (be more loving, etc), we must also recognize the perfection of where we are at. Therein lies the paradox.

When you understand that everything happens in the Mind of God, you enter into a state of surrender and acceptance. For this is a vehicle, a game of sorts, that enables God, being all that is, to have an experience of Himself/Herself as Love. How holy is that? How holy is that God created you as a Love thought - He created you to love you! Everything that happens is part of this eternal game, and thus our worries about money or work promotions and even death - these “problems” all become secondary. The more we deepen on the spiritual path and play the game, the less we see anything as a problem. This is it is written that so many of the mystics exudes pure joy, for they experienced the same joy that a child experiences when he plays make believe. Just like there are different colors, currents, and wave forms in the ocean, we experience the same within the body of God. So the crashing of the wave back into the ocean is similar to the death of our physical body. But we reintegrate, only to rise again as a different wave, maybe completely different in size and color and in a different part of the ocean (the body of God).

Can we say whether an individual wave is part of the ocean or the whole ocean? Can we say whether we are a part of God or God? Can these questions be undertaken by a logical thinking mind that is specific to a body? They cannot, for the essence (not part) of us which expresses itself as that thinking mind can only experience what if knows, not the totality of our being which is eternally and infinitely vast. We try to separate things to understand them, but we are going the wrong way. In order to understand something, we have to experience it not as separate but we have to experience union with it, which is the true state.

When you judge someone, say to yourself what a beautiful expression of God they are. This will stop the judgment. As you see them as a beautiful expression of God, you will also see yourself in that way, and this accelerates your spiritual journey. As always, compassion is a critical and key component of the journey, especially when we are in judgment. For like a well worn rut in the road, we automatically fall into judgment of ourselves and others. Judgment keeps us believing we are separate, and when we see separation, this leads to more judgment and further reinforcement of the belief in separation. Saying what a beautiful expression of God short circuits this loop. And you are only stating the Truth. Because regardless of the outer personality, regardless of how “vile” that person is and how much they “deserve” our condemnation, God is within them and only holiness and grace are present. By making the statement you’re able to see past what is temporary and false within them to what is pure and real.

We are each on a path of moving from the personal self to the universal or God Self. Some parts of God have never fallen from Source and others have fallen a large amount where it takes a very long time to come back to unity consciousness. In reality, no parts of God have fallen - it only appears that way as we are in a long dream of separation. Only a dream because unity is all that exists, but it is through this perception of duality that God comes to know Himself/Herself as Love - it takes two to tango. The highest expression of our spiritual path is one where we know hold the paradox that we are separate from God but as Jesus said, also one with Him.
In order to reach this high spiritual state, we have to move from the personal to the universal. All the things that make up “you” have to be healed, released, transformed. This includes all of our personal and collective conditioning, our traumas, resentments, judgments of ourselves and others. It has to all go so that we can become a clear vessel through which our divinity shines through.
Achievement is badly misrepresented in this world. For instance, there are an endless number of things we can say that are on our to do list. We will always say we need to do more, even if we have already done a large amount. This is how most people view it because we are taught that we should achieve, which is especially true in business and professional life (I have to get that graduate degree, I have to be promoted to VP).
Is this not an endless game where we can’t even define the end goal? Are we not the gerbil on the wheel who celebrates the complete turn of the wheel and then starts the next turn? Are we not like Sisyphus who was condemned to roll the rock up the hill forever? We are, because we are chained to our false beliefs about achievement and many other things and these beliefs control us, just like Sisyphus had no control when the rock always rolled back down the hill.
We can begin to see the conditioning and false beliefs that have created a prison cell of our own making. It’s not that our work goals or our to do list immediately changes, but we begin to see these things differently, and we begin to make decisions from a more empowered place. This will result in a lot more joy and peace and our finding the true path that our soul was meant to take while in this world.

The paradox appears again with the belief that somehow we are incomplete, not whole, and there is something we need to do - some action, some healing, some penance - to become complete. We are bombarded with this conditioning by many sources such as a society which tells us to go through this program or use this device to become smarter or more attractive, by western religion which tells us we have to do this penance to bring favor from God or get in heaven. Nothing could be further from the Truth as these are all false things of the world. Yes, you may have an illness that needs addressing through the means of the world, but all conditions are temporary, even if it is an illness that you have for your whole life. Everything is temporary because our life in this earth reality is temporary. So while we are here, we are like a wave that arises from the ocean with many smaller variations within that larger wave (our temporary states we experience while here), only for the larger wave to crash back and become absorbed into the ocean - Jesus said he and the Father were one, and the same holds true for “you.” When we hold this experience of being both the wave and one with the ocean, we understand that it is impossible for us to be incomplete or not whole. We do experience conditions that appear (variations in the wave) to need addressing, and we may need to address them with the means of the world to some extent, but this doesn’t take away our unity and wholeness. It doesn’t take away the inherent perfection that we are as a part of God.
Like the body, memory is neutral. Events or experiences happened. Period. If you are holding hate or resentment over something that happened in the past, it is because you want it to be this way. When you continually bring up those memories of hatred and resentment in your mind, you do so because you believe that punishment is due. You believe that by not letting go, you are amplifying what happened and creating punishment for the person who did this to you. You are creating punishment, but for yourself.

This is our task, but it’s not so easy, is it? Of course, it’s easy to see the divine within animals and nature - they don’t talk back to us. They don’t judge us, hate us, make us feel small like our fellow humans can. We don’t get into arguments with our pets or with a tree. But God is just as present within our fellow humans and we have accomplished a high spiritual peak when we can see past the personalities and the hurts and grievances to the divine within. In order to do this, we have to see the divine within ourself. As we heal and release our conditioning, traumas, we move from the personal to the universal (God consciousness). We become a clear vessel through which more of God’s light can shine through us. This brings us to a beautiful state of compassion - starting with ourself and moving to all beings in creation.

How do we do this? Why is it important? We do this by acknowledging the importance of the paradox. In order to know Himself/Herself, God had to create a part of Himself that “appeared” separate. We are the Son/Daughter of God, but we are also One with God. This is the inherent paradox, and this paradox is represented in the appearance of all dualities such as light and dark, divine and human, in this world but not of it, a wave in the ocean that inseparable from the ocean. In this world we live in a “fallen” state but we must at the same time hold our divinity. This is represented in many things. For instance, when we have cancer or a serious health condition, we must accept this fact and what we need to become healthy again, WHILE also being in non acceptance of this condition. How does that make sense? That’s the paradox. The non acceptance is the part that refuses to dismiss our divinity and the wholeness that comes with that. Only from this place can true healing occur - yet we are not fully in this place as we have a condition which needs addressing. The paradox.
When you acknowledge you can’t understand anything, then you realize you can’t judge anyone or anything. From this space Love can fully enter, because Love was all that was ever present.

The long transition from our personalized self to our expansive divine self is carried and accelerated by compassion. Because our personalized self has its conditioning, traumas, grievances, judgements, defenses, etc that must all be cleared if we want to be in this world but not of it. If we are asking to be a clear vessel through which God moves and has His Being, all of the aforementioned will arise at different times. When these arise, we are not doing something wrong which can often feel like is the case. We are being brought what we ask for - we are on a journey of remembrance and recognition of our divinity, as are all of the other parts of God. Some are more resistant and want to go slower, staying in a state of denial, medicating through many means, but we are all on this path. And when we recognize this, it brings us to a state of compassion for ourself and for others. If you’re not feeling compassion towards others, it’s because you’re not feeling compassion for yourself. Compassion is the balm which takes you out of anger into a deep acceptance and knowing that everything is okay.

Think of something for which you judge yourself strongly. This can be a recurring thought you have, a past experience, a habit --- something you try to repress or immediately stop thinking about when it comes up. Now bring that up in your mind and feel the "yuckiness" around that. Then I want you to feel His Presence. If you can, feel God inside of you, but it is fine to feel Him around you. As you think of and feel that thought you try to get away from, know that He is there with you, even when you try to separate from a part of yourself.

Do you want to help the world? If so, then look inward. Become a clear vessel through which God can shine His light, and thus you become more of an amplifier of God‘s light. But you have to clear yourself of everything that prevents you from being that bright light, which includes all of your traumas, conditioning, false beliefs, and everything that is not of God and is personal to you. This is what Jesus meant when he said be in the world, but not of it. Yes, works are important, but we often place too much focus on the works and not on clearing ourself. When we clear ourself, the works will be shown to us and will be much more relevant to helping the world than those works we do because our ego thinks it’s what is needed (often to give us recognition).
