How We See God

How we see ourselves is how we see God. If we think of ourselves as Love, then we will see Him the same. To the other extreme, those who see Him as a punishing and vengeful God have tremendous negative self judgments about themselves(that are hidden) --- you cannot think you are deserving of punishment and also believe that He does not punish; these are incompatible. Then there is everything in between.

The reason there are as many perceptions of God as there are people is that everyone has a different view of themselves which gets projected on to Him. We join those groups and religions where we find a similar view of God, but in reality we are joining because we are finding people whose perception of themselves aligns with ours. This allows us the "safety" of not having to challenge our belief system. Basically, we are trying to avoid looking at our self judgments and beliefs about needing to be punished, even if these are "milder" versions (just as some religions have milder views on this). Even our description of God as "Him" reflects the fact that Western society is a male dominated and oriented society.

These posts are similar to the over 2400 contained on The Divine Speaks website where God gives YOU the one that you need to hear at that time. Lawrence is the author of several books on emotional and spiritual healing and spirituality, including the latest: “A Book On Fear: Feeling Safe In A Challenging World” which can be purchased on Amazon at the link below. This is a powerful book for these times that helps us to see where our beliefs come from and how they create fear in us. It includes many simple tools to move out of fear.
